Elon Musk’s making news in the field of battery tech – clearly he’s interested in longer lasting, cheaper batteries for cars, but the tech is equally important for stationary storage applications, which impacts the data centre sector and is central to the renewable energy revolution. Another tycoon with an Elon-esque name, Teague Egan, says he’s on the way to making major efficiency gains in the extraction of lithium from mineral salts. A professor from University College London says that “we are entering into a nearly exponential growth phase”.
