Great news for Arklow as SSE announce that Arklow Harbour will be the base for their new Operations and Maintenance (O&M) base, serving phase two of the Arklow Bank wind farm. Currently the only operational Irish wind farm, the seven-turbine development produces some 25MW of power – the second phase will see 80-100 new turbines added bringing the total power generated to a minimum of 520MW by 2025. This will create jobs and put Arklow on the map as a centre of excellence for renewable energy generation – a centre that will be incarnated in its own premises under Wicklow County Council’s plans for the regeneration of Arklow Harbour.
